Peter Cohen - President

Peter Cohen, Ed.D., is a longtime Chatham summer resident who now makes the Cape his year-round home. A public school educator for more than 30 years, he currently serves as Principal of Nauset Regional Middle School in Orleans. Previously, Peter was Principal of Nantucket’s middle school and began his career as a history teacher in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he was raised.

Throughout his career, Peter has emphasized collaborative leadership, creative and project-based learning, and strong connections between schools and their communities. That commitment carries naturally into his work with Friends of Pleasant Bay, where building partnerships with local schools and creating opportunities for young people to understand and experience the Bay are particular priorities.

As President of Friends of Pleasant Bay, Peter looks forward to deepening his own understanding of Pleasant Bay, spending more time on and around its waters, and helping expand opportunities for students throughout the region to experience and learn from the Bay firsthand. He is excited to help guide Friends of Pleasant Bay as it builds on more than four decades of work protecting, studying, and celebrating this extraordinary resource while ensuring that future generations develop their own connection to it.
